A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE CONTENT: Ms. Scientist celebrates women in science today and looks at the challenges female scientists face trying to advance their careers in Canada.
WHY THIS DVD WOULD BE OF INTEREST TO LIBRARY CUSTOMERS: Around the world the fields of scientific research and development remain a male-dominated environment. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics less than thirty percent of the world’s researchers are women. Many women enter a career in science but leave because of roadblocks and challenges. Canada wants to change that.
Furthering the careers of women and science is one of the objectives of the Canadian federal government at the moment. In April 2017, Canada’s Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan said she is considering whether quotas are necessary to ensure that women land top research posts in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).

Seeing Canada season two filming in Nunavut
In Iqaluit, Nunavut we were invited into people's homes and businesses to learn more about the Inuit culture. We heard throat singing and saw the lighting of the Quilliq. We were taught traditional Inuit handgames. We saw how local jewellers, soap makers and fashion designers are using materials from the land to make their products. We are filming the second season of #SeeingCanada with Brandy Yanchyk. It’s airing on #PBS, CPAC - Cable Public Affairs Channel, Create TV & #Neta_Tweets.
